Sounds and smells
Scratching, scurrying or gnawing sounds in walls, ceilings or attics, especially at dusk and night, are classic signs. A musty or ammonia-like odor can build up where rodents are active.
Physical evidence
- Droppings: dark and pellet-shaped near food, along walls and in attic insulation.
- Gnaw marks: on wood, packaging, pipes or wiring.
- Rub marks: greasy smudges along baseboards and pipes.
- Nests: shredded paper, insulation or fabric in hidden spaces.
- Damage: chewed fruit, pet food bags or stored items.
Why it matters
Rodents contaminate food and surfaces, damage insulation and can chew wiring. Because they reproduce quickly, small problems grow. See how rodent control in Fort Lauderdale works, from inspection to sealing.
What to do
- Do not sweep or vacuum dry droppings; wear gloves and clean with a disinfectant after wetting the area.
- Store food in sealed containers and remove pet food overnight.
- Look for entry points using our rodent prevention guide.
- Call our Fort Lauderdale exterminator team for inspection and exclusion.
